Information Security has become an important aspect of IT World as people are sharing tons of information on daily basis, so it is extremely important to protect sensitive information. These days most of the organizations are relying on information technology to communicate and share information that’s why they hire Security professionals to protect their internal and external organizational network. There are numerous organizations which are offering security certifications for IT professionals who are working in the field of Information security.
CompTIA is well known organization for providing vendor neutral IT certifications regarding network and security, as we are discussing information security so CompTIA is offering Security+ and CompTIA Advanced Security Professional (CASP) certifications for professionals. On the other hand ISC2, International Information Systems Security Certification is a non-profit organization that is offering various highly effective security certifications among which Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) is the popular one, ISC certifications are greatly admired in IT industry.
Most of the IT professionals looking for advanced security certifications often get confuse while choosing between CASP and CISSP certifications. Well, over here we are going to provide an insight of both certifications so that you can easily figure out the best and effective one. Considering CASP certification first, it’s the first mastery level certification offered by CompTIA and their aim is to develop security professionals understanding about advance security measures. This certification is approved by ANSI and recently it has been approved for DoD technicians as well, which is a big attraction but still you have to look in to it before taking CASP exam as it’s an expensive certification. The CASP certification offers understanding about Enterprise Security, Risk Management, Security Policies, Research and Analysis, Integration of computing, communication and business objectives. To earn CASP certification, professional have to take CAS-001 exam which is expensive so candidates should prepare well before attempting it. The exam is based on 80 questions, containing few simulation questions as well.
Now considering CISSP certification, it offers knowledge about Access Control, Network and Telecommunication Security, Risk Management and Information Security Governance, Security Architecture, Software Development Security, operation security and Physical security; in addition to that it offers understanding about Business continuity and disaster management. Clearly, CISSP certification offer much more knowledge about Information security and it is considered as one of the toughest security certifications as well.
Along with this detail information, I have been talking to an IT professional having both CASP and CISSP certifications, according to him CISSP is better than CASP as CISSP certification topics are more effective in current working environment. Beside this, he was complaining about CASP training material and indicated several mistakes in CompTIA Official CASP book. So if you are looking to enhance your skills in terms of Information security, CISSP certification is preferred over CASP as its still in development stage.
